Why WiCA exists: It’s time to level the ground

Let’s talk about why Women in Construction Anglia exists.

We’re not here to tick boxes. We’re here because across the East of England, and the UK, women remain underrepresented, undervalued, and often invisible in construction.

While the UK faces a demand for over 250,000 new construction workers by 2028, women continue to make up only a fraction of the workforce. And even fewer make it to the top. Only 3% of CEOs in construction are women.

That’s not because the talent isn’t there. It’s because the pathways aren’t clear, the environment isn’t always inclusive, and the voices of women in this industry are often unheard.

But it is getting better and we are committed to making sure this continues. WiCA exists to change that.

We’re building a regional movement grounded in:

  • Visibility: showing women do belong in construction.
  • Opportunity: creating and spotlighting real pathways into the industry.
  • Connection: mentoring, supporting, and opening doors.
  • Representation: not just being in the room, but shaping the future.

This platform isn’t just a community. It’s a roadmap to real change.

If you’re part of this industry, and especially if you’ve faced barriers, your voice matters. This space is here to be used to connect, challenge, and co-create the future of construction in our region.
